From my email In Box, an interesting Omega case...

I received the following email yesterday:

Hi Chuck:

I am a very fan of all your information about OMEGAS, for me your site is like a Bible, and is for that reason that I am sending to you this pics of an OMEGA case that is fot me unknown, please help me to find out the model, if it is an speedmaster or a seamaster, and what movement should be inside this case,

Thanks a lot, your friend from Best Posture Brace

Hector

Hector,

Pleased to meet you. Thank you for your kind words... I have never seen a case like this from Omega in the past... In looking at the inside caseback under high magnification through the crystal,

it provides a clue to what the case may be. Since the Caseback says 145.014 and we know that the 145.014 is the Patent Leather Bags II Professional case, I surmise that this case is a Mark II Pro case which has been "Re-sculpted" to give it the external appearance of a moonwatch. The effort is not entirely dissimilar to the Re-sculpted cases that Gilliam in Germany crafts out of 176.012 cases:

I suspect someone has done similar work on the case you've come across...

I hope this is helpful to you...

Chuck

Hi, Chuck,

thank you very much for the information,

this case was actually offered as a mark II case but since it was offered as a spare part and being so different to the regular mark II cases I thought that may be the case , the crystal and the case back were separate parts put together, and may be the case belong to some vintage seamaster, but looking different pics of some seamasters I did not found this profile of ccase,

so thanks a lot for the information and is for me a pleasure that you post this storyon your site,

thanks again, and Best Regards

Hector

A very interesting item and would make for a very interesting watch. I've often said that while the Mark II looks much more modern and seemingly is more rugged due to it's armor like case when compared to the moonwatch, this case's appearance doesn't often look good on a strap. This case style nearly cries out to be on a bracelet. With this case we see a method to have a "cross-bred" version of a Mark II that might look a little more handsome on a leather strap.

Enjoy!

SuperMagnetMan

I have been buying Neodymium Iron Boron (NIB) super magnets for years. Back then, the previously-reviewed Wondermagnets was the only source for hobbyists and they had quite a selection. But times have changed. For the past five years, I have been ordering my magnets from "Mr. George the SuperMagnetMan," unequivocally the best source today. His prices are the best on the net. His selection is vast: no one else has the stock he has or the variations in size of commonly available shapes. This is no exaggeration or hype. He's got stuff you can't get anywhere else and is constantly adding new items, like axially- and diametrically-magnetized NIB wedding Porter Cable Porta Band and radially-magnetized ring magnets. He has magnets so large they are dangerous (fortunately he has put videos on YouTube that show you how to safely handle these monsters -- with large leather welding gloves and a special wooden wedge and a 2x4!). He also sells magnetic hooks, pyramid shaped magnets, magnetic jewelry, teflon coated magnets, heart, star, and triangle magnets. You can even get powdered magnets that act like iron filings on steroids! You name it he's got it. Most magnets are N45-N50 grade, the highest strength you can buy.

Some of the products I have ordered are the magnet powders, radially-magnetized ring magnet, various size sphere magnets, conical magnets, large rectangular magnets, cubes, and many others. Shipping charges are reasonable. Service is great. One time I ordered a bunch of stuff and never completely checked what I got. I went to use one of the magnets months later and found out it was the wrong size. He sent me the right size in the mail a few days after I emailed him.

Mr. George seems like a pretty cool dude, too. An electrical engineer, Mr. George develops magnet products himself and caters to other engineers, inventors, and hobbyists. He can have custom magnets made to order. He has also put up a series of educational videos on YouTube and has done a lot of work with kids. He has a saying, something like, "Give a kid a magnet and you have a friend for life."

Mood change

G20 ministers upbeat on global recovery

With the end of summer many people either head south or put their RV in storage until spring. But for winter camping, or cool mornings in the spring and late fall, a well maintained RV furnace is the easiest, safest and most effective way to heat your RV.

The older your RV is the more important routine maintenance becomes. Furnaces more Shirleehegge384 5 years old should be inspected yearly by a certified RV technician.

Routine monthly inspection is a simple process, and can be done by you. The following is a list of what to inspect, and how to do it:

  • Check your exterior vent If you find soot, your furnace is experiencing improper combustion. This is a sign of a carbon monoxide problem. Take to a RV service center for inspection and repair before you use the furnace again.
  • Check your interior return air vents. They should be free of dust and not obstructed.
  • Look at the furnace case (remove the return air vent). Vacuum any dust and dirt you see. Dust build up here will work into the interior switches and furnace blower motor and will prevent your furnace running at top efficiency.
  • Check the heating ducts. They should be clean with no obstructions. Pay special attention to the duct connections at the furnace and the condition of the ducting. Cracked or loose ducting will cause warm air leaks, and inefficient heating. Dried or cracked ducting should be replaced.
  • Test your carbon monoxide detector. If your RV is not equipped with one, get one! It is a cheap life insurance policy.

Your RV furnace operates on the 12 volt system so you don't need to be hooked up to electric to use it. Remember to have a generator, a charger, or an extra battery available because the furnace will drain the battery. The furnace is the biggest user of LP of all the appliances in your RV, so make sure your tanks are full before leaving on your trip, and check your propane level often while your furnace is in use.

Historic Gold Cup win for Kauto

Kauto Star puts in a magnificent display under Ruby Walsh to win his second Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Getting out and conducting business is a basic necessity for any business person these days even with the easy of digital communications coming on like mad. Fortunately, Congress knows as much and tax law has long allowed for the deduction of costs related to driving around on business.

If you are looking for a simple tax deduction that can really make a dent in your tax liability, the business mileage deduction is a pretty good choice. The deduction is organized in an easy and logic way - a real shocker considering we are talking about a tx issue. Regardless, one just multiplies your total business mileage for the year by a mileage deduction rate issued by the IRS. The resulting total is your deduction amount.

The IRS has just announced the business mileage deduction rate for the 2009 tax year will be 55 cents a mile. This is an increase of 4.5 cents over the 2008 figure. So, what does this mean? Well, let's assume you drive 5,000 miles in 2009 on business. You would calculate your tax deduction by multiplying 5,000 x 55 cents to come up with a total of $2,750. Any way you slice it, that is a very nice deduction.

There are a couple of things you need to keep in mind with this deduction. The first has to do with when you can claim it. The 55 cent rate applies to your 2009 mileage, not your 2008 mileage. This means that you can only use this rate when you sit down to calculate your 2009 taxes in the first quarter of 2008. What about for the 2008 year? That rate is 50.5 cents.

A second cautionary note has to do with unwanted attention from the IRS. There can be a temptation to expand a bit on the miles used in calculating this deduction. Don't. The IRS is more than aware of the temptation. When it does audits, it will ask for evidence of the mileage being incurred. This means you need to keep a log detailing the mileage. If you don't, the entire deduction may be tossed out.

The business mileage deduction is great because it is one of those deductions you can take year after year. To its credit, the IRS has also shown a tendency recently to adjust it to match changes in gas prices if things start getting crazy. With falling gas prices, we'll have to hope the IRS does not adjust the rate down in 2009, bit it might so keep an eye out for any changes.

Why monkey mothers bow to baby pester power

Angry bystanders force rhesus macaque mothers to give in to babies' temper tantrums, scientists find.

1. Ohio State - I'm an avid Michigan fan but have to admit returning 18 starters from a already solid 2 year run is pretty tough to beat. The talent at OSU is at or above every elite level program in the country for this season and this should finally be there year.

* Win it all If....They pass a early season test @ USC (9/13). This could very well be the first of two meetings between the Trojans and Buckeyes in '08-'09, However the loser of Game 1 is going to have to hope for a shaky Top 5 like this past year. Win or Lose for the Buckeyes they will still have a shot at the end of the season to be in the NC Game.
* Potential Roadblocks...@Wisconsin, @MSU, and @ Illinois, with all 3 of them improved this season, could be tough as well as the final game at home vs. Michigan.

2. Florida - A Rematch of the '06-'07 game ends the opposite way for the gators, allowing OSU to knock off some of that SEC Supiority. (However I strongly feel the SEC is the best conference in the Country but thats for a different day.) Tebow, Harvin, Moody, Gainey and Co. will have an explosive offensive year and a still youthful defense will cause fits throughout the year.

* Win it all if...Its Simple, Beat Miami (Fl), Tennesee, LSU, FSU, Georgia, and Arkansas.
* Potential Roadblocks...The Schedule, Tebow's durability. IMO this offense will not be stopped, but there could be potential lapses I suppose.

3. Georgia - Its very tough to pick against the Bulldogs this season, They return almost everyone, 15+ I believe, the schedule could be the downfall. Matthew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno will dazzle once again. Massaquoi will finally become a star alongside AJ Green for the big play threats. The defense will be very fast and hard hitting, I love Coach Richt as well, he always has his teams ready. Some of the big time recruits will have great freshman seasons. Tyson, Harmon, and Jackson will all boost the D-Line.

* Win it all if...They beat Florida on Nov. 1st, IMO Winner of the SEC East will be a lock for the NC game, barring an upset in the SEC title game.
* Potential Roadblocks...@ASU,@LSU, and @ Auburn is tough to overcome, as well as Florida, 'Bama, and Tennessee at home.

4. Clemson- I will hear it for this pick I think, but I really like this Clemson team, with a very favorable schedule and game breakers such as CJ Spiller and James Davis. Bowers on the defensive side will have a large impact as well Spencer Adams (S) and Brandon Thompson (DT).

* Win it all if...They don't stumble. They should be good if they pass Game 1 vs. Alabama, that is, until the ACC title game. VT and possibly Miami could be the difference between BCS Champ Game or the Orange Bowl.
* Potential Roadblocks...Alabama, @ FSU, ACC Title game and a lack of focus or preperation for any other games, It's happened before which is a criticism of head coach Tommy Bowden.

5. USC - 5 is most likely too low for this extremely talented squad. QB Mark Sanchez (Or possibly Mitch Mustain) inherits more offensive weapons than one could dream of, the only problem is the amount of pressure that brings as well.

* Win it all if...They get solid play from their QB. Both are experinced and very talented, they need to be leaders not playmakers. OSU at home, typical Cal and Oregon tough games, and then the showdown with New-UCLA.
* Potential Roadblocks...Complete meltdowns from both QB's, Trap games vs. ASU Cal Oregon and Notre Dame. Very easily could be playing for the title though.

6. Oklahoma - A very scary team, 1 of about 8 teams with a legit title oppurtunity. Bradford and Co. will be huge again on offense, and Coach Stoops' Defenses never seem to fail. Alot of talent returning from last years youthful squad. The annual showdown with Texas is the biggest test, but Kansas, KSU, Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Cincinnati all will pose as dangerous. And never count out Texas Tech either.

* Win it all if...They are consistent, they were all of last season until that dreadful Texas Tech game, A Dangerous Mizzou squad could await them in the Big 12 Title game.
* Potential Roadblocks...Not many, just learn from their mistakes last season. Play Stoops' ball and dont let up vs. Texas and any others.

7. Texas - Could flip with Oklahoma. One of the two will win the Big 12 South, a lethal defense will need to carry the load in the big games for them to have a chance in a very offensive Big 12 this season.

* Win it all if...They win the Big 12 Title, its do-able, but unlikely this year. McCoy will be huge though.
* Potential Roadblocks...Colorado, Oklahoma, Mizzou, Tech, Kansas, and Texas A&M, Big 12 Title game. Thats 7 very tough games. Easily could slip up.

8. WVU - They are for real, I did not think they were until the bowl game last season. This time will score many points, they just need to stay motivated and not get bitten by Pitt or any other "underdog." Bill Stewart will not let this program drop off. Pat White will have a Heisman Longshot, Noel Devine will be the real deal.

* Win it all if...They don't faulter. The midseason Auburn contest is huge for this team, but they played with the best of em last season vs. Oklahoma and showed they belong.
* Potential Roadblocks...Cincinnati will be a tough game again, The Bearcats will be better, Auburn as well, The Backyard Brawl is clearly always going to be interesting as well.

9. Missouri - They return a boatload of starters and Chase Daniel + Jeremy Maclin are the best 1-2 punch in the country on any given day. The defense will be able to win a game or two if needed, the potential downfall could be injuries, which we all hope never happens, but a lack of depth could hurt.

* Win it all if...They win the Big 12 Title, whoever comes out of the Big 12 could have a very serious NC game bid.
* Potential Roadblocks...Game 1 vs. Illinois in a rivlary game, Nebraska, Texas, Colorado, and Kansas.

10. Michigan - I have to do it. Im a big fan of the Wolverines and my optimism is really high at this moment. (Although I think 2010 is a real title shot). Rich Rod will have this team stronger, faster, and hungrier, as well as more potent. Alot of incoming speed and more playmakers in Ann Arbor. A young, Fast, and swarming defense is now in place as well.

* Win it all if...They won't but 10-2 is easily reachable, however that could quickly also be 6-6,7-5 type season as well.
* Potential Roadblocks...Notre Dame, Illinois, Wisconsin, MSU, OSU, and PSU all lurk.

Live updates: Bafta Game Awards

Live updates from the 2009 Video Game Awards held in London.

Grey UGG Classic Cardy Boots are so hot in the fashion world right now (late 2008) that when one looks casually online or out in stores to see if a pair is available they will likely be disappointed.

UGG boots have been rising in popularity over the last few years, but with a couple of different pairs being listed on Oprah Winfrey's "Favorite Things" list for two years in a row, they've gained a momentum of popularity that continues to rise - and rise.

In 2007, a new crochet boot came to the forefront of the UGG Australia "Classics" collection - the UGG Cardy boot for women and kids. It's an incredibly fashionable boot, having several different looks, depending on what fits the wearer's taste. No matter how they are worn they are not only beautiful stylish boots, but amazingly comfortable as well!

UGG Cardy boots (like most UGG boots) have a luxuriously soft sheepskin inner sock that serves to keep feet warm and cozy, while keeping moisture off the feet. Because of this feature, the boots can be worn comfortably even during the warmest months of the year without feet becoming hot.

The 2008 colors for UGG Cardy boots include a few that are popular as well as a few that are producing only mediocre sales. As mentioned above the most popular color is Grey - why? Well, they are a lovely soft shade that will go with practically anything in a woman's wardrobe and are a perfect color for the cold months in the year. They're in such high demand this winter that finding them is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack!

What to do if you're "on the hunt" for the right size Grey UGG Classic Cardy boots but you can't find them? There are a few resources that still have them available, but they're a bit obscure unless you have the "skinny" on how to get to them. You can spend some time digging them up online (be careful of fraudulent sellers who are selling replicas). You can also wait out the cold months and try later on in the year - they will likely be readily available by February or March 2008.

Thriving During Tough Times - Personally Building on Other Momentum Changers Out There

Each of us needs to take responsibility for the momentum and results in our life. We need to be proactive with our personal actions to change our momentum and results. However, there are times that we can look outside our immediate circle of influence to build on the momentum established by other momentum changers out there in the world.

Thus, you should always be scanning the horizon, marketplace, and world to find momentum changers whose efforts you can build upon to change your personal momentum. On this inauguration day, I believe we can all look to the new United States President, Barrack Obama, as a significant momentum changer.

As you move forward with your life, use the following process to personally building on the momentum of other momentum changers out there, like President Barrack Obama.

Put Skepticism Aside

The fact that Barrack Obama is now officially the President of the United State won't solve all our problems. We should acknowledge that. However, it is also very easy to get skeptical about the impact that President Barrack Obama can make on this country and in this world. Make a concerted effort now to tame any skepticism that resides in you. You can practice putting skepticism aside anytime you witness a moment changer out there in the world.

Be open-minded

It is one thing to put your skepticism aside but it is another to open your mind to the opportunities associated with momentum changers out there. Look past the specific opinions and positions associated with the affiliations of the moment changer to the opportunities for positive change. In the case of President Barrack Obama, look past the fact that he is Democrat, or that he is not Republican, to see the opportunities associated with a potential transformational leader.

Trust Your Intuition

Many people will present themselves as momentum or game changers but many of them are just posers. Take the Bernie Madoff scandal and the many others that we have seen over the last several months. Could the intuition of the people that got caught up those scandals have been sending warning messages? Sometime things are too good to be true! Trust your intuition about the opportunities and possibilities associated with President Barrack Obama's commitment to change things for the better. Tap your intuition to assess the legitimacy of any momentum changer you find.

See the possibilities

In all change, there is possibility. When one door closes, another one opens. With every challenge, there is a seed of equivalent benefit in the situation. Orient yourself to look for and see those possibilities. When you look with intent, you can always find the benefit or possibility. The Inauguration of President Barrack Obama brings us change in many ways. Acknowledge the change and search for the benefit and possibilities. It is good practice for you, our country, and our world. Then, start to apply this more often around other moment changers you see out there.

Grab on to something positive

When a momentum changer provides direction or vision, reach out and grab something positive and make it personal. Let it touch your mind and heart. Let it inspire you to make decisions and take even the smallest positive actions. Allow it to create a new energy in you.

While listening to President Barrack Obama's Inauguration speech live, I noted a few dozen sentences and phrases of the speech that seemed to grab me and thus I will look to grab them as I take action to move forward. Have you grabbed on to something positive from the Inauguration Address of President Barrick Obama?.

Turn the passive hope of the possibilities into active hope
Passive Hope is an important first step on the journey to better places. Barrack Obama helped many people take that first mental step with his presidential campaign and its messages. However, in observing Barrack Obama, I can assure you that he did not mean for any of us to remain in passive hope in looking to build a better future. We need to take several additional steps to turn passive hope into active hope.

Turn our Hope into Dreams
Turn our Dreams into specific Visions
Turn Visions into specific Goals
Turn Goals into specific Actions
Put the right energy behind it all

I hope you will apply this process to build on the momentum of the Inauguration of the 44th U.S. President, Barrack Obama, to create new personal momentum and do some great things in 2009. Use this big momentum changing event as an opportunity to practice. Then, apply this process as often as possible around other moment changers in order to make a better future in all your endeavors.
